Not really a Muslim, or at least not a good one, but this is how I see it. A professor I knew (from my job) at Northwestern (a prestigious university in Illinois) felt similarly right when “ISIS” first appeared in the media landscape a few years ago.
Frankly, though I don’t adhere to or necessarily agree with all of the tenets of modern Islam, it’s pretty annoying and revolting to see ISIL conflated with Muslims.
