I have been looking for this for some time now, but I can't figure out how to find it without trying to go through my copy line by line (which knowing me would be fruitless). Anyways, I recall reading a verse in the Quran that's message was something like - This is meant for good but evil people can interpret it in an evil way and good people will interpret it as intended.
It was only a few lines and I think it was relatively near the beginning. Does this even sound familiar to anyone? I may have misinterpreted it but it seemed incredibly self aware for a religion to include something like that. I interpreted it as saying the litmus test for how a verse should be interpreted is whether or not it promotes good. If it does not then that's not really what it meant.
