Obviously things where guessing and chance are involved is gambling, and haram.
What about things that are not based on guesses but rather skill? Say for example regular mainstream video games etc? Which are very different compared to casino games.
A friend and I are building an app just as a little side thing, he came up with the idea of basically a mini e-sports tournament app. Where small groups of players put in a small amount of money(maybe 50 cents to a dollar) and face of in skill based games. Winner takes all. I liked the idea and it's doable, I'm just not sure if it's haram or not.
If it is haram, in what circumstance(if any) is winning a prize Islamically allowed?
