A lot of people who criticize Islam point to certain verses in the Quran that upon first reading seem to advocate violence and the forceful spread of the religion, but many of them seem to be taken out of context. What are some examples of these verses? What would the proper response be to criticism that uses them as examples? Are there any such things in other Islamic texts such as the Hadith?
