Bismillah,

If you want to see how much a person values something, pay close attention to the effort that person makes. Interviewers will not only look at the credentials of the interviewee but even the approach to the interview. How did they dress, were they on time, did they prepare, were they organised, did they have their resume on hand, how was their behaviour. All of these things tell the interviewer things about the interviewee, and whether that interviewee really wants the job.

This is common and we all pay attention to these things. If we are going to a wedding, we dress and behave really well. If we are going to someone's house for dinner, we also dress appropriately and behave well as a guest. I even heard a talk, where an ex-Christian mentions how, when they were a non-practicing Christian, they still dressed in their "Sunday best" when going to church. The idea that, even though they couldn't bring themselves to do what they should, they still wanted to show God that they respected God and the church.

Every week, Muslims go to the Masjid for Jumuah. When we attend Jumuah, what is our approach to the Masjid and ultimately Allah(swt)? Do we prepare ourselves properly, or look like we just rolled out of bed? Do we shower or just wake up and perform wudhu? Do we focus on Allah(swt) or do we socialize and think about everything except of Allah(swt)? This is something that isn't trivial for those who are striving towards Allah(swt), because we find in the books of hadith:

It was narrated from Abu Dharr that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“Whoever takes a bath on a Friday and does it well, and purifies himself and does it well, and puts on his best clothes, and puts on whatever Allah decrees for him of the perfume of his family, then comes to the mosque and does not engage in idle talk or separate (pushing between) two people; he will be forgiven for (his sins) between that day and the previous Friday.” [Ibn Majah]

What we see from this hadith, is that Jumuah is an interview, for those who want their previous week of sins forgiven. Those that really care, they will make sure they prepare themselves and approach Jumuah in a way that proves that they care.

They will make sure they shower, perform ghusl and clean themselves well. They will dress well, making sure they are covered properly and appropriately. For men, not look like they rolled out of bed, but take care in our choice of clothes, wear a thobe if you have one, cover your hair, it's a Sunnah. For women, cover yourselves well, don't wear tight clothes, especially tight pants, the Prophet(saw) talks about women who appear naked while dressed.

Men wear itr and smell good, but women, according to ahadith and the understanding of Ulama, you have to be extremely careful about your use of perfume when in public, especially at the Masjid.[1][2]

When you're at the Masjid, you should focused, in a state of dhikr not socializing or on your phone. Be aware of your surroundings and don't discomfort or disturb others. If you careful and make an effort, Allah(swt) will Insha'Allah wipe away 1 week worth of sin. If you do this every week, then you'll see spiritual growth, closeness to Allah(swt) and ultimately be much closer to Jannah.

Ofcourse, not everyone will be concerned or want to make an effort, so this is for those who care. This is something we do for ourselves.
