Asalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

Edit: I should have mentioned this in the title. The video is 2 years old. I have no idea what discussions have been held on the points mentioned in it. It actually came up randomly and I didn't see the date until after i finished writing this all up.

I've been watching a lot of anti-Islamic videos recently, things about how muslims left Islam which links to the lack of knowledge of the parents (that's a separate issue and In Sha Allah I will make a post on that one day).

This is the first time I've done a refutation but i just upset with the way he said the things. All Qur'an related information is from Quranhive.com including but not limited to commentaries, translation, etc.

Anywho, so I came across this video, I tried to explain his points below so no one has to watch it if they don't want to. I have no idea who this guy is, I have no idea what the general consensus is on him and if anyone thinks he is a "waste of time" or not but, the arguments he put forth were strange. So I looked into them. It seems to me like he's trying to build up support for Israel but his arguments are pretty weak in my opinion.

I'm not a scholar or anything special, just an average muslim trying to understand Islam. If I make any mistakes PLEASE let me know, In Sha Allah I will look into it further and make the necessary changes. You will be helping me learn as well as benefitting others who may read this.

Note: I don't think it's a waste of time to do this, maybe someone else saw his video and it shook up their Iman, or maybe people use this person's work to "fight" Islam. But at the same time no one has to read through this, I don't know why i felt compelled to do this. In Sha Allah it will help me learn.

  1. He mentions the first verse as the go-to ayah muslims used to say terrorists killing innocent people is haram. That if you kill one person it's like killing all of mankind.

On account of [his deed], We decreed to the Children of Israel that if anyone kills a person - unless in retribution for murder or spreading corruption in the land - it is as if he kills all mankind,

while if any saves a life it is as if he saves the lives of all mankind.

Our messengers came to them with clear signs, but many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.

Surah 5 (Al-Ma'idah) Verse 32

This verse is related to the story of Habil and Qabil (Abel and Cain) and how one brother killed the other (first murder in history) and why Allah made it impermissible for Bani Israel, and consequently us, to murder without just cause.

So he says there are 4 things:

  1. The Qur'an says that this was a revelation for the Jews. "We decreed (ordained) for the Children of Israel. etc etc

Anything revealed in the Qur'an as being revealed to Bani Israel applies to us unless it explicitly states otherwise. First of all, Muslims believe Prophet Musa Alayhi Salaam preached Islam. Allah usually uses the phrase "They rejected the messengers" meaning that by rejecting one messenger you would reject them all, so to accept one means to accept them all.

Ibn Kathir Tafsir for this ayah mentions the story of Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him. Quickly paraphrased, Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said he entered on Uthman RA, when his house was under siege. He said "I came to support you, now it's good to fight (defending you). Uthman RA replied "does it please you that you kill all people including me?", Abu Hurayrah RA said "No", then Uthman RA said "If you kill one man, it is as if you killed all people. Therefore, go back with my permission for you to leave. May you receive your reward and be saved from burden". Abu Hurayrah RA went back and did not fight. May Allah be pleased with both of them.

The guy in the video then goes on to say

The next verse, Surah 5 Verse 33, is a revelation for Muslims, and it commands Muslims to dismember and crucify all kinds of people.

The best part here, I think, is that he didn't even read out the verse.

Those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption in the land should be punished by death, crucifixion, the amputation of an alternate hand and foot, or banishment from the land: a disgrace for them in this world, and then a terrible punishment in the Hereafter,

Surah 5 (Al-Ma'idah) Verse 33

Obviously right away you'll notice Allah didn't command muslims to do those things to

all kinds of people

Instead He commanded Muslims to punish those people who:

A) Wage war against Allah and His Messenger.

Wage means "to carry on (a battle, war, conflict, argument, etc.):" Synonyms: engage in, carry on, conduct, execute, pursue, undertake, prosecute, practise, proceed with, devote oneself to, go on with.

Ok, so this means those who are actively fighting or even oppressing the Muslims.

B) Strive to spread corruption in the land.

So anyone who is actively doing or trying to spread corruption in the land. The arabic word used is "Fasaad" which has meanings:

Root Fa-Sin-Dal: to become evil/corrupted, invalid, decomposed, bad/spoiled/tainted, wrong, vicious, make mischief or foul deal.

Fasaad - corruption/violence.

But there are limitations. Of course, there are limits in everything for a Muslim as to how far we can go.

Fight in God’s cause against those who fight you, but do not overstep the limits:\* God does not love those who overstep the limits.

Surah 2 (Al-Baqarah) Ayah 190

*The Arabic command "la ta'tadu" (do not transgress) is so general, that commentators have agreed that it includes prohibition of starting hostilities, fighting non-combatants, disproportionate response to aggression, etc.

Kill them wherever you encounter them,\ and drive them out from where they drove you out, for persecution is more serious than *killing.\*** Do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they fight you there. If they do fight you, kill them– this is what such disbelievers deserve–

but if they stop, then God is most forgiving and merciful.

Fight them until there is no more persecution, and worship\* is devoted to God. If they cease hostilities, there can be no [further] hostility, except towards aggressors.

Surah 2 (Al-Baqarah) Ayah 191-193

them,\* - the muslims were concerned about whether they were allowed to retaliate when attacked within the sacred precincts in Mecca while on pilgrimage. This gave them permission to fight back.

killing.\* - them (aggressors) persecuting the muslims is worse than the muslims killing them in the precincts in self defense.

worship\* - at the sacred mosque.

But as for those who seek refuge with people with whom you have a treaty, or who come over to you because their hearts shrink from fighting against you or against their own people, God could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So if they withdraw and do not fight you, and offer you peace, then God gives you no way against them.

Surah 4 (An-Nisa') Ayah 90

This was the position used against Al-Abbas who accompanied the idolators during the battle of Badr. They, Al-Abbas, joined with great hesitation so the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam commanded (since his words were not his own, it means Allah commanded) that Al-Abbas not be killed, but only captured

I have my own thoughts on this but it'll make this a lot longer so I'll move on.

2) "Since this is the standard verse quoted by muslims to show that Islam is a religion of peace we should always point out that the most peaceful verse in the Qur'an is actually a quotation from the Talmud."

I think everything before now answers this pretty well already.

3) The Qur'an says this Jewish teaching is a revelation from Allah. So according to the Qur'an the Talmud, or at least a portion of it, is a revelation from Allah.

I looked up Talmud since this video is honestly the first time I heard of it.

Under Jewish beliefs, Moses received the Torah as a written text alongside an oral version or commentary. This oral section is now what the Jews call the Talmud.

I have nothing to say about the Talmud, but what I can say is that the Torah is definitely considered to be a revelation from Allah. It's literally mentioned in the Qur'an. As far as the Talmud is concerned I would assume it should be dealt with in a similar way to how we deal with Hadith. If anything is mentioned that goes against the Qur'an it should be dropped. So if anything in the Talmud goes against the Torah it should be dropped. But again, I don't have enough knowledge.

I should extend the earlier claim I made that "Prophet Musa Alayhi Salaam preached Islam" to say, Islam existed since the beginning. Before man was even created, the angels are all Muslims themselves since they submit entirely to the Will of Allah.

4) Jews had authority from Allah to carry out capital punishment for certain crimes committed in the land.

Way to many statements being made here from just one ayah out of 6236 ayahs (according to google). During their time, can't deny it. But when they strayed Allah sent another messenger (Isa Alayhi Salaam) and when his people strayed Allah sent another messenger (Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) and the latest revelation supersedes the others. Anyway, I wasn't expecting this much info before I even got this far. If anyone wants me to get more on this feel free to ask.

As for the pop quiz part... ok

Next verse,

But why do they come to you for judgement when they have the Torah with God’s judgement, and even then still turn away? These are not believers.

Surah 5, Verse 43

The guy mentions the hadith Sunan Abi Dawud 4449. I have no idea how to link just that hadith but you can just do ctrl+f and type in 4449 on this website, it'll take you straight to it.

After that the person in the video talks about how the Jews bring the Torah, Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam says he blieves the Torah and the One Who revealed it. Then puts the judgement cushion beneath it. He then asks "According to the Qur'an, do the Jews need Muhammad's revelations?" and answers "No, because they already have the Torah".

It seems like the guy in the video is really forgetful. He forgot to mention this sahih hadith which explains another ayah Allah revealed in the Qur'an about how the Jews follow some of the scripture and not the rest.

Allah granted Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam knowledge of the Torah so he knew the punishment was already mentioned within it. When the Jews punished the man by blackening his face and flogging, he, Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam, asked if that was the punishment in the Torah to which they replied "yes" which told him, Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam that they didn't even read their own scripture. To me this also implies that if the Jews actually knew their own religion they would understand that the Qur'an confirms that which was before it and as guidance and good tidings for the believers.

"The Qur'an, then, is completely useless.........to Jews" that pause lol.

After that he goes on to

You [Prophet] are sure to find that the most hostile to the believers are the Jews and those who associate other deities with God; you are sure to find that the closest in affection towards the believers are those who say, ‘We are Christians,’ for there are among them people devoted to learning and ascetics.\* These people are not given to arrogance,

Surah 5, Verse 82

The verses 5:82-86 were revealed about Negus and his followers. When the verses of the Qur'an were recited to him in front of his priests and monks the tears rolled down their cheeks "due to the truth which they recognized". Allah says in this verse that it is because those Christians were not arrogant (proud) like the Jews and the Idolators. As you may remember from earlier the Jews didn't know or follow their own scripture. In the case of the Christians the ones who were learned from among them (knew the Gospel) recognized that the Qur'an is the word of Allah.

The man in the video says "The greatest enemies are Jews and Idolators", talks about how the verses changed depending on the mood of our Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam. That it was Muslims, Christians, and Jews vs the Idolators. Then the "middle period" with Muslims and Christians vs the Jews and Idolators, then last with Muslims vs everyone else. Then he goes ahead to say that in the "middle period" there was still hope that the christians would accept Muhammad, Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam. There was no hope, it was about that incident where the Christians immediately recognized it, the story I mentioned below the quoted ayah.

As for the various "periods", I would assume that after those who knew their own scriptures had accepted Islam only the arrogant and ignorant remained.

The man in the video also mentions that it's odd how an eternal book would be so heavily influenced by the Prophet's, Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam, interactions with non-muslims.

I'll have to say this once again, I'm not a scholar and you shouldn't take my word like this is how it is. These are just my thoughts, personal beliefs.

Ignoring how revelation was given in the Torah or the Gospel, Allah planned it (the Qur'an) in such a way that everything was revealed with purpose. When something happened Allah revealed information about it to guide the muslims ahead. In some cases warnings for the future had to be given ahead of time. Otherwise the revelation arriving in this manner is why and how Islam was perfected (as mentioned in the Qur'an) and why the muslims were able to stick to it so strongly. The Sahaba lived the Qur'an and the hadith.

The person then says how Jews are the greatest enemies of Muslims and he references this Hadith from Sahih Muslim.

Based on the Ayahs about fighting and not being allowed to fight if the aggressor stops, paired up with this hadith, we can imagine that those Jews who would be hiding behind the stones (or trees) will not want to stop fighting no matter what leaving no choice but to kill them for the safety of the muslims. I could be wrong here, I don't have the book with commentaries on the hadith so unfortunately I can't give more information than my own thoughts.

He ends the video by saying "if you say I shouldn't criticize Islam then you're supporting a legal system known as Sharia". It's funny because "Sharia" means guidance as far as I know. Like, if someone sleeps on their right side they're following Sharia. I mean, there are lots of examples to explain this further but I think this is a good point to end.
