Top Yacht

Tarte Top Yacht Chrome Paint Shadow Pot ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, light gold with strong, warm undertones and a very shiny, metallic finish. The texture seemed to be chunkier, which made it harder to apply initially. This shade in particular benefited greatly from being applied with fingertips (the warmth seemed to help a lot, as the brand said it would) or with a dampened brush. With gentle pressing and short blending strokes, I was able to apply it evenly with a dry brush–it’ll just take a little longer to do so. Applied with a fingertip, I was able to get more semi-opaque coverage and build up from there. The finish seemed chunky initially, but it definitely “melted” and looked smoother after a few minutes. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before creasing a bit.

Formula Overview

$22.00/0.11 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "rich, vibrant" color that comes in "loose pigment" form and will "melt instantly" and "stay put for hours" on the eyes. They feel like a heavier, creamier loosely-packed eyeshadow, which I think is illustrated well across the six shades I initially purchased (shown in the group shot): some arrived more crumbly and two arrived very smooth, densely and tightly packed. They brand recommends using these with a fingertip, but I was able to use brushes as well as fingertips to achieve very similar results.

Most of the shades were quite pigmented whether applied dry or wet, but wet application definitely intensified the vibrancy and shine of the finish. I found they applied a little better in practice (dry) than initially swatched, which might be due to applying to a smaller area and pressing/patting on without spreading across a larger area. They have a slightly thicker consistency, so I recommend using a patting/pressing motion to get them to adhere evenly and smoothly on the lid, but they did seem to "melt" (as described) as I worked with them on my skin and after a few minutes, so they had a very smooth sheen while worn.

I did get some fallout, especially with the shades that appeared more crumbly, and I had less fallout after I pressed the looser product down in the respective pot (effectively crushing everything together). They lasted between eight and nine hours on me before creasing faintly.

Martini

Tarte Martini Chrome Paint Shadow Pot ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a rich, deepened gold with warmer, olive undertones and a bright, metallic finish. It had rich color coverage applied both wet and dry, though the wet application made the base appear deeper, so the shade appeared to have more depth. The texture was soft with a looser press, but I didn’t find it too “dry” to pick up well, as the eyeshadow still pressed well to bare skin for good, even adhesion and just a little fallout if I wasn’t careful. I’d recommend lightly pressing everything back together and then picking up product, though. It looked “melted” after a few minutes of wear, which gave it a very smooth sheen on my lid. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Steel the Show

Tarte Steel the Show Chrome Paint Shadow Pot ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a soft black with a metallic sheen. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, and it performed the same in finish, application, and intensify regardless of being used dry or wet. If I used a dampened brush, it just seemed to make the pigmentation stretch further, but the end result was the same. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and lightly creamy, even in its less pressed form. It applied evenly and blended out with ease along the edges. It stayed on well for nine hours before creasing faintly on me.

Pot of Gold

Tarte Pot of Gold Chrome Paint Shadow Pot ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright pop of true, yellow gold with soft, warm undertones and a bright, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation when applied dry, and I found that on the lid, as I buffed and blended it out, it seemed to intensify a bit more. This shade did seem to be a little more pigmented more readily when used with a fingertip or a dampened brush, though I had little trouble using a dry brush to press and pat it into place. The texture was soft, smooth, and very blendable, which made it easy to work with. It lasted well for eight and a half hours on me.

Park Ave Princess

Tarte Park Ave Princess Chrome Paint Shadow Pot ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, medium copper with warm, reddish undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had good color coverage applied dry, but it appeared noticeably lighter and had a shinier, smoother finish. When I worked with it using a dampened brush, the finish was chunkier, more metallic, but it was less even. I found getting the balance right with the wet application to require more dialing in (a little wetter brush or pick up very little product). The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin in either application, though I found it easier to blend out and use dry until I pressed and pushed the product in the pot down so that it was a flatter, more even surface (less crumbly). It stayed on well for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

Fire Dancer

Tarte Fire Dancer Chrome Paint Shadow Pot ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark red with warmer, copper undertones and cooler red pearl that gave it a high-shine, metallic finish. Applied with a dry, it had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer more; it did not seem to matter if I used fingertips or a dry brush. Using it with a wet brush, it amplified the intensity of the metallic finish and amped up the pigmentation to full coverage. The texture was soft and smoother, as the eyeshadow arrived very densely-packed in the pot, which made it easier to work with. It wore well for nine hours on me before creasing faintly.
